The accident, which occurred on Sunday and claimed 13 lives, involved four vehicles. FRSC’s Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, has underscored the agency’s commitment to road safety and legal accountability.
According to FRSC spokesperson Jonas Agwu, the accident involved two trucks owned by Dangote, a Sharon bus carrying 12 passengers, and a motorcycle. The primary cause was attributed to a braking system failure in one of the Dangote trucks, exacerbated by speeding.
The collision resulted in a fire that claimed the lives of all bus passengers and the motorcycle rider. Among the victims were eight male adults, three female adults, three male children, and one female child. Only two individuals were rescued without injuries.
The deceased, who were severely burnt, have been taken to the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the FRSC has been directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. This move follows recent collaboration between the FRSC, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the state judiciary to enforce legal repercussions for traffic violations resulting in accidents.
Corps Marshal Biu assured the public that the drivers responsible for the tragedy would be prosecuted in line with the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012.
