FRSC Takes Action To Reduce Road Crashes In Ogun During Ember Months
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, said it has commenced aggressive enforcement against motorists flouting traffic rules and regulations to reduce road crashes during the ember months.
The new Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Fasakin Akinwumi, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota on Tuesday.
Akinwumi said FRSC Corps Commander, Shehu Mohammed, had directed all sector commands to massively deploy personnel within their jurisdictions for a 24-hour surveillance of the exercise.
The sector commander says the aim is to check excesses of motorists, thus minimising accidents, especially during the ember months.
Ireporteronline reports that the ember months are the last four months of the year – September, October, November and December.
He noted that most of the accidents recorded in the state were due to speeding, reckless driving, wrongful overtaking, and tyre bursting among others.
The sector commander stressed the need to put more robust special patrols in place to make the roads safer for the motoring public during, before and after the ember months.
Akinwumi said ember months were not evil as believed by some people, rather motorists should change their attitude and drive safely during the period.
“We are appealing to motorists, especially as we enter the ember months to obey traffic rules and regulations to prevent avoidable crashes.
“In addition, we are poised to begin aggressive enforcement of traffic rules and regulations to reduce crashes on our highways,” he said.
The sector commander said the corps would also be visiting motor parks, churches and mosques to educate the public on the importance of safety.
Akinwumi implored motorists against taking intoxicating substances that could negatively affect their sense of reasoning, thus leading to road crashes.
