Fubara Set To Swear In Five New Commissioners

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to swear in five commissioner-designates on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, following their screening and confirmation by the Rivers State House of Assembly.

According to Ireporter Online, the development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Dagogo Wokoma. The statement listed the confirmed nominees as Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr. Peters Nwagor, Mr. Lekue Kenneth, and Sir Amairigha Edward Hart.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt at 1:00 p.m., with the commissioner-designates and one guest each expected to be seated by 12:30 p.m.

The confirmation followed a screening session conducted by the state legislature which lasted more than two hours. During the exercise, lawmakers approved five nominees while declining four others who had earlier been forwarded by the governor.

Those whose nominations were rejected include Prof. Datonye Alasia, Tamuno Williams, Otonye T.K.D. Amachree, and Charity Deemua. The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, explained that the decision was based on concerns over their performance during the screening as well as controversies linked to their nominations.

Amaewhule stated that while the House confirmed five candidates after reviewing their credentials and responses, it opted to withhold approval for the remaining nominees due to what he described as unsatisfactory presentations and unresolved issues surrounding their documentation. He added that the affected nominees were unable to sufficiently convince lawmakers of their readiness and competence to serve in the state’s executive council.
