General Christopher Musa Leads Security Chiefs in Urgent Meeting to Address Protest Unrest and Foreign Flag Controversy
Critical move to address recent unrest involving some protesters, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa convened an urgent joint security meeting with service chiefs, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and heads of other key security agencies. This high-level meeting was convened to strategize on managing the pockets of unrest that have emerged in various states.
During the meeting, the security heads collectively called for peace and unity, emphasizing the need to avoid any actions that could exacerbate tensions. A significant point of discussion was the troubling trend of foreign flags being waved during protests. This act has sparked controversy and concern among both the public and international observers.
The Russian Embassy has notably distanced itself from this flag-waving incident. On Monday, the embassy issued a statement affirming its respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and democracy. The diplomatic mission clarified that the flag display did not represent an official stance from Russia, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a neutral position in Nigeria’s internal matters.
This meeting underscores the commitment of Nigeria’s security leadership to maintaining peace and order amidst ongoing protests. By addressing these issues head-on, General Musa and his team aim to restore stability and ensure that protests remain peaceful and constructive.
