Governor Bala Mohammed Appeals to Peter Obi to Return to PDP Ahead of 2027 Elections
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who also chairs the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, has extended an invitation to Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, to rejoin the PDP. The appeal came during Obi’s visit to the Bauchi Government House on Friday, amid rising expectations for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Governor Bala Mohammed urged Obi to consider returning to the PDP, emphasizing the party as Obi’s rightful political home. He highlighted the widespread hunger and anger among Nigerians and cautioned against joining parties in disarray.
“There is a lot of hunger and anger. We don’t want to cause so many disparaging movements. So please come back. That’s where you belong. Don’t go anywhere that is in disarray,” he said.
Addressing the media, Bala Mohammed stressed the necessity for opposition parties to unite ahead of the 2027 elections. He called for harmonizing interests among the opposition—including the PDP, ADC, and other parties—to present a united front capable of challenging the ruling government.
“We have to harmonize our interests in the interest of the people of Nigeria. The opposition must come together. This ADC, PDP, and even the remaining political parties should come together,” he stated.
He also remarked on the current administration’s lack of a concrete budget or plan, emphasizing the predominance of politics over governance since the beginning of the administration.
Peter Obi, for his part, described his visit to Bauchi as an opportunity to engage with youth in colleges of health and Almajiris. He expressed optimism about the potential of Nigeria’s future leaders and commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his efforts in advancing education within the state.
