Governor Sanwo-Olu To Demolish Buildings Failing Integrity Tests In Lagos
In response to the recent collapse of 14 buildings near the site of the Dosunmu Market fire on Lagos Island, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced stringent measures. Expressing concern over the incident, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the need for proactive action to prevent similar tragedies in the future. He noted that many residential apartments have been repurposed as warehouses, posing significant risks.
The Governor highlighted the necessity of enforcing building regulations and ensuring compliance with safety standards. He warned that any structure found to be in violation of construction guidelines will be demolished without hesitation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu condemned the preventable nature of the recent disaster and stressed the importance of prompt intervention by first responders. He expressed dismay at the carelessness that led to the fire and subsequent building collapses.
In response to the situation, the Dosunmu Market will be closed indefinitely to assess the damage and provide assistance to affected individuals. Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting those impacted by the fire.
While acknowledging the need for assistance to help affected residents recover, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety and preventing avoidable accidents. He pledged to allocate resources towards proactive measures rather than reactive responses to such incidents
