Hudu Kwasakwasa, a community leader, confirmed the harrowing event to reporters, detailing how the bandits mercilessly opened fire on worshippers. “The two worshippers killed were among other Muslims attacked at the Juma’at Mosque in Angwar Makera when the bandits opened fire on them and abducted others today,” he lamented.
The victims were laid to rest at the Old Kuyello cemetery, their lives cut short as they were in the midst of prayer. Witnesses recounted how the assailants struck during the second raka’at of the salat, prompting panic among those present, who fled for safety.
This assault comes on the heels of recent banditry in the region, with Kwasakwasa highlighting a previous abduction of nine individuals in Angwar Kanawa just days prior. The escalating violence underscores the precarious security situation in Kaduna State.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another brazen attack, wherein over 287 students were abducted by daring bandits in the neighboring Chikun Local Government Area, amplifying concerns over the deteriorating security landscape.
When approached for comment, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, ASP Mansir Hassan, cited ongoing security deliberations but assured that a comprehensive report would be provided following the conclusion of the meeting.
