According to Ireporter Online, the Premier League title race intensified on Saturday as Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all recorded hard-earned victories in a closely fought round of matches that kept the battle for supremacy finely balanced.

Arsenal reclaimed top position on the table following a 2-1 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium. The win came after Manchester City had briefly climbed to the summit earlier in the day with an away success at Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners dominated possession for large spells but faced stern resistance from the visitors. Captain Martin Ødegaard gave Arsenal the lead in the 14th minute, firing a low effort from outside the box to register his first league goal of the campaign. Arsenal continued to press but were unable to add to their advantage until shortly after the restart, when Brighton forward Georginio Rutter inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure.

Brighton responded in the 64th minute through Diego Gómez, who reacted quickest to a rebound to cut the deficit and inject tension into the contest. Goalkeeper David Raya later produced an outstanding save to deny substitute Yankubah Minteh, preserving Arsenal’s slender lead.

Arsenal were forced to adjust defensively after injuries ruled out Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori, who withdrew during the warm-up. Declan Rice was deployed at right-back, while teenage prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly was handed a role. Manager Mikel Arteta later introduced Gabriel Magalhães to help secure the points. The result restored Arsenal’s two-point cushion at the top, while Brighton dropped to 12th place and extended their winless run to five matches.

At Anfield, Liverpool held their nerve to secure a 2-1 win over bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring shortly before halftime, and Florian Wirtz doubled the advantage moments later with his first Premier League goal. Wolves pulled one back after the break through Santiago Bueno, but missed opportunities prevented a comeback, allowing Liverpool to climb into fourth place while Wolves remain rooted at the foot of the table.

Earlier, Manchester City maintained their impressive form with a 2-1 victory away to Nottingham Forest. Tijjani Reijnders broke the deadlock early in the second half after a well-timed assist from Rayan Cherki. Forest responded through Omari Hutchinson, but Cherki sealed the win late on with a decisive strike from a cleverly executed set-piece.

City’s sixth straight league win temporarily lifted them above Arsenal, but the Gunners’ later success ensured the north London side ended the day back at the summit of the Premier League standings.
