The coordinated attacks, which took place in the afternoon, caused widespread panic as people fled for their lives. According to sources, the incidents resulted in over 30 fatalities and more than 100 injuries. Many of the injured have been transported to Maiduguri for medical treatment.

In an exclusive statement to Sunday Vanguard, Timta said, “The entire Gwoza council area is in mourning following multiple suicide attacks on our community. The first attack was carried out by an unidentified woman who, along with two children, infiltrated a wedding reception of a popular young man in Gwoza and detonated her Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), killing herself and many others.

“Minutes later, another suicide bomber targeted a nearby burial ceremony and detonated IEDs, and as I speak, a third explosion has just occurred, resulting in more casualties. At least 100 people have been injured, with those in critical condition being rushed to Maiduguri under military escort for proper medical attention.”

Timta emphasized that these were preliminary figures, with further updates on casualties expected soon.

Reacting to the tragic events, Ahmed Usman Jaha, the representative for Gwoza/Chibok/Damboa federal constituency, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He prayed for Allah to grant the deceased Aljannatul Firdaus and wished the injured a swift recovery.

Gwoza, a town in southern Borno bordering Cameroon, was previously declared Boko Haram territory after being captured by insurgents, resulting in hundreds of deaths before its liberation by troops.
