Heartbreak for Tobi Amusan as She Misses Podium Finish at Diamond League Opener!
Tobi Amusan kicked off her 2025 outdoor season with a disappointing fourth-place finish at the Diamond League opener in Xiamen, China, on Saturday.
This was Amusan’s first hurdles race since her appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she missed out on a podium finish.
In Xiamen, Amusan recorded a time of 12.74 seconds. The race was won by reigning world champion Danielle Williams, who staged a stunning comeback to claim victory with a time of 12.53 seconds.
Grace Stark of the USA finished second, posting a personal best of 12.58 seconds, while South Africa’s Marione Fourie secured third place with a time of 12.62 seconds.
Williams thrilled the crowd with a late burst of speed, overtaking Stark just moments before the finish line.
Meanwhile, World Indoor Champion Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas suffered a mishap, clipping a hurdle early and failing to complete the race (DNF).
Looking ahead, Amusan has been listed as part of Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m relay team for the upcoming World Relays in Guangzhou, China, scheduled for next month.
It is expected that she will remain in China for the time being, as her next competition on the Diamond League circuit is the Yangtze River Delta Athletics Diamond Gala, taking place at the China Textile City Sports Centre on May 3.
