According to iReporter Online, a senior police officer in Akwa Ibom State has earned widespread commendation after refusing an N800,000 bribe allegedly offered in an attempt to suppress a criminal investigation and release an armed robbery suspect.

The officer, identified as CSP Ebong Thompson, who heads the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, reportedly declined the bribe on Wednesday, July 30, 2025. The offer was allegedly made by a man seeking to secure the release of a suspect arrested in connection with an armed robbery case.

Authorities disclosed that a 53-year-old man, David Samuel Isaac, was arrested after a Samsung mobile phone, stolen at gunpoint, was traced back to him. Further investigation revealed that Isaac had previously been arrested and prosecuted for similar crimes but returned to criminal activity following his release.

Another individual, Emmanuel Mendie Peter, was subsequently taken into custody after arriving at the SWAT office with N800,000, which he allegedly offered in exchange for Isaac’s release. The bribe was promptly rejected, and both suspects are now in custody.
