House Of Reps Fires Back! Says Binance Bribery Allegation Now A Diplomatic Battle
The Nigerian House of Representatives has clarified that allegations made by Binance executive, Tigran Gambaryan, regarding a $150 million bribe demand are directed at specific lawmakers and not the institution as a whole.……..READ MORE
In a statement released on Saturday, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi (Jr) stated that the three lawmakers named in the allegations have denied any wrongdoing and have been encouraged to seek legal redress to clear their names.
Rotimi further explained that the issue has escalated to a diplomatic matter between Nigeria and the United States, emphasizing that the public should be cautious of misleading claims aimed at discrediting Nigerian institutions.
“These allegations, which have resurfaced after being initially circulated last year, target individual members, not the House of Representatives as an institution,” he stated.
Binance’s Gambaryan, who serves as the company’s Head of Financial Crime Compliance, reiterated on his social media account that three Nigerian lawmakers, Peter Akpanke, Philip Agbese, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe, demanded the bribe in cryptocurrency in exchange for his release from detention.
While the lawmakers have denied these claims, one of them has reportedly taken legal action, and others are being advised to do the same.
Rotimi stressed that the matter has now transitioned into a government-to-government engagement between Nigeria and the U.S. and will be handled accordingly. The House also stated that it would refrain from further comments, given the ongoing legal and diplomatic processes.
“The House of Representatives remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of Nigeria’s democratic institutions,” the statement concluded.
