In a recent appearance on Sparkling FM Radio in Calabar, the governor reflected on the tough times, emphasizing that festive activities would be inappropriate under the circumstances. Otu remarked, “I cannot, in all honesty, celebrate my birthday with the expected fanfare amidst these hardships.

“There is considerable suffering in the country due to hyperinflation, and it would be insensitive to celebrate. That’s why my event is being kept low-key.”

Despite the muted observance of his birthday, Otu expressed gratitude to the people of Cross River for their prayers and well wishes. He reiterated his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of the citizens during his time in office, stating, “I have held many positions in this country and have never let anyone down. By God’s grace, I will not disappoint the people of Cross River State as their governor; there will be value addition.”

Looking ahead, the governor announced plans to improve public engagement by initiating regular town hall meetings across the three senatorial districts starting next year. He stressed that these meetings would allow citizens to speak directly with him, fostering open dialogue and ensuring their concerns are heard. “This will enable people to ask me any questions they have, and they will receive my answers directly,” he added.
