Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that he helped save former President Olusegun Obasanjo from a potentially fatal injection while the former military leader was in prison.

According to Ireporter Online, Atiku made the claim while speaking with journalists about his long-standing political relationship with Obasanjo and the events that shaped their time in government.

The former Vice-President alleged that he received information about a plan to administer an injection to Obasanjo during his incarceration and subsequently warned him against accepting it.

Atiku linked the alleged plot to the death of former Chief of Staff Supreme Military Council, General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who died in detention in 1997.

He said, “I saved Obasanjo’s life in prison by leaking information about an impending injection that could have killed him.”

Atiku further claimed that a similar incident had occurred in Yar’Adua’s case and that the information he received prompted him to caution Obasanjo against accepting the injection.

The ADC candidate also attributed the deterioration in his relationship with Obasanjo to his opposition to the former president’s controversial bid for a third term in office.

Atiku said his stance against the move created lasting political differences between both men.

He added, “Today, he wants the world to hate me because I opposed his third-term ambition.”

Atiku and Obasanjo served together as President and Vice-President of Nigeria respectively from 1999 to 2007, during which their relationship was marked by both political cooperation and significant disagreements.
