IGP Reacts To Death Of Egbunike, DIG Investigating Abba Kyari

Usman Akali Baba, Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Wednesday reacted to the death of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Joseph Egbunike, who was in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID).

It was earlier reported that Egbunike died on Tuesday night after he slumped in his office a few minutes after he was given drugs at the National Hospital in Abuja.

While details of the incident is still sketchy, it was gathered that Egbunike had met his doctor for a medical check-up after feeling unwell.

Few minutes after he was given drugs, the senior officer who was said to have driven him to the office in the company of family members, in his usual bubbling self, slumped and died.

Until his death, Egbunike was in charge of the highest investigating arm of the Nigeria Police Force constituted by the IGP Akali Baba, to investigate the activities of the suspended head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRS), Abba Kyari, over money laundering allegations.

Reacting, Adamu said DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.

”An officer with finesse and commitment to intellectual development and was instrumental to the achievements of the giant strides within the Police architecture,” he said.

He, therefore, condoled with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased and prayed for the repose of his soul.
