Iyabo Obasanjo Registers As APC Member In Ogun State

According to Ireporter Online, Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has completed her registration as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

The development was confirmed by Hon. Biodun Ajayi, a former chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government and close political ally of the Obasanjo family. Ajayi revealed that Obasanjo finalized her online registration on Tuesday at Ibogun Ward 11 in Ifo Local Government.

A former House of Representatives member from the area, speaking on condition of anonymity, corroborated Ajayi’s account. Meanwhile, the APC’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Femi Nuberu, neither confirmed nor denied the registration but reiterated that the ongoing membership drive is open to all Nigerians aged 18 and above.

Observers suggest that Obasanjo’s enrolment aligns with the APC’s broader membership drive ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Iyabo Obasanjo is an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She previously served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health (2003–2007) and as Senator representing Ogun Central (2007–2011). Her political engagements have continued to draw public interest, particularly after campaign billboards bearing her name appeared in Abeokuta late last year, sparking speculation about a potential return to active politics.

The billboards carried the message: “In Ogun State, we know ourselves. Sen (Prof) Iyabo Obasanjo. Omo wa ni, eniyan wa ni, ara wa ni.” Sources close to Obasanjo indicated that her decision to register with the APC reflects independent political thinking rather than loyalty to any particular party.

Obasanjo has acknowledged the billboards, stating they were erected by supporters and not by her. Speaking to Remo TV during the 70th birthday celebration of Chief Mrs. Gloria Shoda, former National President of the National Council of Women Societies, she said she initially asked supporters to stop the campaign but later allowed it as a gesture of goodwill.

She added that any future political decisions would ultimately rest with God and her supporters, emphasizing that continued encouragement from the public stems from the positive impact of her previous work.
