JAMB Threatens to Block Admissions for Institutions Withholding Matriculation Lists

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to all Nigerian tertiary institutions to submit their matriculation lists or risk having their admissions for the 2024 and 2025 academic sessions blocked.

This directive follows a Federal Ministry of Education mandate requiring all higher education institutions to provide matriculation lists to JAMB as part of efforts to eradicate illegal admissions and ensure transparency in the admission process.

Speaking during a meeting with Admission Desk Officers, JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, emphasized that institutions that fail to comply will not have their admissions approved in subsequent admission exercises.

“Institutions which fail to submit their matriculation lists for the 2022 and 2023 admission sessions should not expect approval for their admissions in 2024 and 2025,” Oloyede stated.

He clarified that while some leniency is being extended for the 2024 admissions due to ongoing processes, full compliance is mandatory once admissions conclude. The Registrar warned that erring institutions will face consequences, describing them as “scapegoats” and promising that appropriate sanctions will be announced soon.

Oloyede further revealed that defaulting institutions will be invited for meetings alongside their affiliate institutions, where penalties will be outlined. He also directed the placement of public adverts in major newspapers to inform institutions about the consequences of non-compliance.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that a list of non-compliant institutions would soon be made public.

This move is part of JAMB’s ongoing commitment to uphold the integrity of the admission process and ensure accountability across the nation’s educational sector.
