The convicts, residents of Malamre Yola, pleaded guilty to the charges and sought leniency from the court.

Chief Magistrate Musa Adamu delivered the judgment, expressing concern about discouraging such crimes in society where individuals break into homes at night to steal, threaten, and instill fear. The convicts were sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of N50,000 each for criminal conspiracy.

Additionally, Aliyu Adamu, Ahmed Musa, and Adamu Aliyu were sentenced to 10 years, seven years, and five years imprisonment without the option of a fine for theft in a dwelling house. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The convicts were granted a 30-day right of appeal or to serve the imposed term.

According to the Police Prosecutor Insp Galion Neron, the charges against the convicts included criminal conspiracy and theft.

The complaint was filed by Mamoud Yahaya of Malamre, who reported the incident at Karewa Police Station, Yola. The suspects had allegedly conspired to break into the house of the complainant’s brother, Isah Yahaya, stealing items such as a Samsung television, perfumes, caps, underwear, clothes, and international passports, among others.

During the police investigation, the suspects admitted to the crime, and some of the stolen items were recovered from their possession. The charges were brought under the provisions of section 60 and 279 of the Penal Code of Adamawa 2018.
