Katsina Declares Work-Free Day in Honour of Late President Muhammadu Buhari

The Katsina State Government has declared Monday, July 14, 2025, as a work-free day to mourn the passing of Nigeria’s former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday.

In an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, the administration said the holiday was declared to allow the people of the state to observe a day of reflection, mourning, and prayer for the late elder statesman.

“The Governor of Katsina State, His Excellency Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has declared Monday, 14th July 2025, as a work-free day in honour of our former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,” the statement read.

Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina, and the nation at large. He described the late president as a “great leader, a hero, a true democrat, and a patriotic elder statesman whose life was devoted to national service.”

The statement also noted that further details regarding burial arrangements would be announced subsequently.

President Buhari, an indigene of Daura in Katsina State, passed away at the age of 83 following a prolonged illness. His burial is expected to take place in accordance with Islamic traditions.
