Labour Party Wins Bogoro Councillorship Election Without a Candidate, BSIEC Declares PDP’s Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf the Winner
Unprecedented twist, the Labour Party (LP) has been declared the winner of the Bogoro councillorship election in Lusa B Ward, Bogoro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, despite not fielding a candidate. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) has controversially announced Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner, even though she finished in second place.
At the results announcement at the Bogoro collation centre, returning officer Daniel Gambo disclosed that the Labour Party received an astounding 2,200 votes without having a candidate on the ballot. PDP’s Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf followed closely with 2,168 votes, while Mbam Masoyi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured third place with 275 votes.
This unexpected result has stirred considerable debate and raised questions about the integrity of the election process. Many speculate that voters either wrote in the Labour Party’s name or cast their votes in protest against other candidates. The Labour Party’s success without a formal candidate highlights unusual voter sentiment and dissatisfaction with the other choices available.
Despite the Labour Party’s apparent victory, BSIEC has upheld the declaration of Lucy Ahmadu Yusuf as the winner, referencing compliance with electoral laws and regulations. This decision has not been without backlash, prompting calls for further clarification and transparency regarding the electoral outcome.
The controversy surrounding this election underscores the need for clearer electoral guidelines and practices to ensure fair and transparent processes in future elections.
