Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has marked the 83rd birthday of former Military President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) with heartfelt congratulations and commendations. The association lauded Babangida for his substantial contributions to national unity and his enduring dedication to Nigeria’s progress.
In a warm birthday message delivered to General Babangida at his residence in Minna, the CAN Chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, celebrated the former leader’s patriotism and statesmanship. Rev. Ezekiel Ibrahim, the Deputy Chairman of the state CAN, presented the message on behalf of the association’s executive committee.
Most Rev. Yohanna, through his representative, hailed Babangida as a “beacon of hope” for Nigeria, emphasizing his relentless efforts to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians of diverse faiths and ethnicities. The Christian body highlighted Babangida’s role in advancing religious education in the country, particularly his recent advocacy for the reintroduction of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) in public primary and secondary schools. This initiative was praised as a crucial step in strengthening moral values among Nigerian youth.
General Babangida, in response, expressed his deep gratitude to the Christian community for their recognition and support. He appreciated the birthday wishes and acknowledged the importance of their prayers and encouragement.
This celebration not only reflects the high regard in which General Babangida is held by the Christian community but also underscores his significant impact on Nigeria’s development and social harmony.
