Lagos Bridge to Shut for 21 Days – FG’s Drastic Action Triggers Concern Across City!
The Federal Government has announced that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos State will be shut down for urgent repairs starting May 18, 2025.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the bridge closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, and will last for 21 days.
Kesha noted that some sections of the bridge will be entirely closed, while others will experience partial restrictions throughout the repair period.
She explained that the maintenance work will involve lifting the bridge deck to replace damaged bearings, along with other vital structural repairs.
Appealing to the public for patience and cooperation, Kesha assured that traffic diversions have been carefully planned and that traffic personnel will be on-site to direct motorists and ease congestion.
She added that the purpose of the intervention is to enhance safety and comfort for all users of the bridge.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but the repairs are essential to keep the bridge in optimal condition and ensure public safety.
Appropriate safety signage and traffic control measures will be in place to reduce disruption.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate the public’s understanding,” Kesha stated.
