Legendary Comic Actor, Mr Ibu, Passes Away After Lengthy Health Battle
In a heartbreaking turn of events, beloved comic actor John Okafor, fondly known as Mr Ibu, has tragically passed away. The veteran actor breathed his last after a prolonged struggle with blood clotting in his leg, succumbing to the ailment in a Lagos hospital on Saturday, March 2.
Sources close to the family revealed that Mr Ibu had been placed on life support following a recent surgery aimed at addressing his health condition. Despite efforts to stabilize his deteriorating condition, his blood pressure soared to alarming levels, exceeding 200, ultimately leading to his untimely demise.
Mr Ibu’s health journey was fraught with challenges, as he grappled with persistent blood clotting in his leg, compounded by various other health complications over the years. His public appeal for financial assistance in October 2023 highlighted the severity of his condition, with plans for overseas medical treatment dashed due to concerns about his fitness for travel, as advised by his doctors.
Tragically, in November 2023, Mr Ibu underwent the harrowing ordeal of leg amputation as part of his treatment regimen, further underscoring the gravity of his health struggles.
Survived by his wife and children, Mr Ibu leaves behind a legacy etched in the annals of Nigerian cinema. Renowned for his unparalleled comedic genius and impeccable portrayal of humorous characters on screen, he endeared himself to audiences far and wide with his unforgettable performances.
