Suspects Apprehended For Brutal Assault On Alleged Sugarcane Thief

In a swift response to an appalling act of vigilantism, law enforcement authorities have apprehended two men and a teenage boy accused of mercilessly attacking a man suspected of stealing sugarcane.

The victim, Beven Zenderani (25), was subjected to a vicious assault after being confronted by the suspects while walking with a friend near James Gumbi’s plot. Allegations surfaced that Zenderani and his companion were accused of pilfering sugarcane from Gumbi’s property.

According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Assistant Paul Nyathi, the victim, Zenderani, has since been located and promptly taken to a local hospital for a thorough medical examination, following the harrowing assault that transpired on February 18, 2024.

In a commendable display of swift action, law enforcement officials have successfully identified and arrested three individuals implicated in the heartless attack. Among those in custody are Hardlife Mananga (21), Luckson Ruzive (30), and a 15-year-old juvenile, who has been released into the custody of his parents pending further investigation.

With the prime suspect, James Gumbi, still at large, a dedicated police team has been dispatched to Harare to apprehend him swiftly. Furthermore, efforts are underway to locate and apprehend three additional individuals believed to have been involved in the disgraceful incident.
