Senator Ndume Declares Tax Reform Bills A Non-Starter, Urges Tinubu To Withdraw

During an appearance on Tuesday, Ndume expressed his strong opposition, noting that there’s no need for the legislature to even review the bills.

“These bills won’t make it through as they are. There’s no reason to study them further,” he asserted.

Senator Ndume, known for his bold viewpoints, suggested that the government should focus on easing, not increasing, the tax burden on Nigerians. Critics argue that additional taxes could worsen the current economic hardships many Nigerians face.

“Nigerians can’t even consider more taxes now, given the economic state,” Ndume said. “People are barely surviving; let them live before asking for more taxes.”

Ndume, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized that the administration should focus on reforms rather than increasing taxes. He revealed he’s campaigning among his colleagues to block the bills.

“What the President needs to do,” Ndume continued, “is withdraw the bill, educate the public, and engage with us. Traditional rulers, governors, and citizens alike have voiced their disapproval. The fair thing is to end the bill here.”
