petition tribunal.
PDP’s candidate in the September 21 election, Asue Ighodalo, has petitioned the tribunal to overturn the declaration of APC’s Monday Okpebholo as the winner.
On Saturday, the tribunal chairman, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, revealed that all parties had agreed to call 290 witnesses to present their cases. The hearing was adjourned to January 13, 2025, with petitioners given 21 days to present their witnesses. The respondents will have 10 days each to do the same.
The tribunal will convene daily at 10 am, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
Justice Kpochi further explained the agreed timelines for witness examination, noting that each primary witness would have 40 minutes for examination-in-chief, with 30 minutes for cross-examination by the petitioners and 20 minutes for cross-examination by the respondents. For ordinary witnesses, 25 minutes will be allocated for examination-in-chief, and 10 minutes for re-examination.
No applications for consolidation of the petition with other cases will be entertained, and only witnesses whose statements have been filed in advance will be allowed. Additionally, interpreters will be available for witnesses who speak languages like Benin, Esan, or Auchi.
