Mining Worker Crushed To Death As Rock Collapses At Abuja Site
A mining worker identified as Adam Bahago, popularly known as Peter, has died after being struck by a collapsing rock at a mining site in the Kabusa area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Daily Post reports that the tragic incident happened on Saturday, June 29, around 3:20 p.m. while Bahago was excavating the site, which is owned by Inhui Mining Company.
Bahago, who hailed from the Koro ethnic group in Kaduna State, was crushed by a large rock that fell directly on his head, leaving him with severe injuries.
According to the site manager, Brown Ekelechi John, the victim was immediately rushed to Asokoro General Hospital for medical attention. However, doctors at the facility confirmed him dead on arrival.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that Bahago’s remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, and his family has since been informed of the tragic loss.
Preliminary investigations point to the likelihood that the collapse was caused by weak rock formations at the site, sparking renewed calls for stricter enforcement of mining safety regulations across the FCT.
It is gathered that mining activities, both artisanal and commercial, are prevalent in various parts of Abuja, especially in semi-urban and unregulated residential areas, raising ongoing concerns over safety standards.
