The United States dollar continued to trade strongly against the Nigerian naira in the parallel market, with the greenback selling for ₦1,398 and buying at ₦1,388 as of Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Market information obtained from Bureau De Change operators in Lagos indicated that the exchange rate remained under pressure amid persistent demand for foreign currency in the unofficial market.

This means individuals seeking to exchange dollars for naira in the black market were offered ₦1,398 for every dollar sold, while those buying dollars paid around ₦1,388 per dollar.

Meanwhile, data from the official foreign exchange market showed that the Central Bank of Nigeria recorded the dollar at a high of ₦1,376 and a low of ₦1,367 during the same trading period.

Financial analysts note that the CBN does not recognize the parallel market and has consistently advised individuals and businesses requiring foreign exchange to access the official banking system.

It is important to note that exchange rates in the black market are highly volatile and may vary depending on location, transaction volume, and prevailing market conditions.
