NBA Takes Legal Action: Culture Minister And Music Promoter Face Sack Over NYSC Certificate Scandal
In a dramatic legal move, the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law has filed a lawsuit urging the court to remove the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, from office for alleged violations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act…..CONTINUE READING
The organization is also demanding the nullification of NYSC certificates issued to Musawa and renowned music promoter Kenny Ogungbe, claiming that the issuance was contrary to the provisions of the NYSC Act.
The plaintiffs, NBA-SPIDEL Chairman John Aikpokpo-Martins and Secretary Funmi Adeogun, assert that Musawa and Ogungbe’s mobilization for the mandatory one-year national youth service after surpassing the age of 30 was unlawful and an affront to patriotism.
They argue that the purported national service and certificates issued by the NYSC to the defendants are null and void.
The lawsuit seeks a declaration that Musawa and Ogungbe are not entitled to be employed by any employer, including the Federal Government of Nigeria, without possessing and presenting valid NYSC certificates. This legal battle adds a layer of controversy to the already challenging landscape surrounding the NYSC and its implementation.
