Fresh Controversy Trails Police Promotions As Allegations Of Ethnic Bias Surface – According To IReporter Online

Fresh controversy has erupted over the latest promotions carried out under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as allegations of ethnic favoritism rock the Nigeria Police Force.

According to IReporter Online, out of the 37 officers promoted under what has been described as a “special consideration” exercise, a staggering 30 reportedly hail from the Yoruba ethnic group.

This has sparked intense criticism and claims of regional bias within the force’s upper ranks.

The development, according to IReporter Online, has reportedly triggered widespread dissatisfaction and division among officers across various zones, with many alleging they were unjustly denied promotion despite meeting all the necessary requirements—simply because they are not Yoruba.

Senior officers who spoke anonymously warned that the growing perception of lopsided promotion could deeply erode trust, fairness, and morale within the force.

Meanwhile, the Police Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed on Monday that the newly promoted officers would soon be decorated at the Force Headquarters.

According to IReporter Online, this announcement has done little to calm the storm, as calls mount for greater transparency and equity in future promotion exercises.
