This recent grant supplements the previous US$14 million contribution by Rotary, facilitated through the WHO, which was allocated to Nigeria approximately two months ago to support polio surveillance activities.

Furthermore, Nigeria has been granted an additional US$2 million by Rotary to enhance Maternal and Child Health initiatives, underlining Rotary’s commitment to improving healthcare in the country.

During his visit, indications suggest that Mclnally will engage with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to explore avenues for further assistance in disease control, child welfare, and maternal health.

According to statements from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) coordinators, Prof. Emmanuel Dolapo Lufadeju and Dr. Goddy Nnadi, MNI, this visit aims to strengthen the partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Rotary International.

Rotary International, a leading humanitarian organization with over 1.5 million members globally, holds diplomatic status and has been actively involved in efforts to eradicate polio in Nigeria since 1948.

The visit seeks to solidify the collaborative efforts between the Nigerian government, WHO, UNICEF, and other stakeholders in addressing health challenges in the country.

Highlighting Nigeria’s significance, the statement emphasizes the nation’s priority status for Rotary International, given its substantial contribution to humanitarian efforts and its notable membership growth.

With Nigeria boasting four districts and poised to expand to six districts by July 1, 2024, Rotary’s engagement underscores the country’s pivotal role in Rotary’s Africa Zone and its commendable contributions to humanitarian giving.
