Addressing reporters at a press briefing in Aso Villa, Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, underscored the nation’s vast potential to achieve food security and boost its agricultural output.

“A decision has been made in the best interest of our nation: there will be no reliance on food imports at this juncture,” announced Idris. “Nigeria possesses the capacity to feed its populace and even contribute surplus food items to global markets.”

Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the federal government and state governors, Idris elaborated on plans to intensify investments in agriculture across the nation. “Governors have pledged their support to President Tinubu’s vision, committing to bolster investments in agriculture to ensure an abundant food supply for all Nigerians,” he stated.

This commitment to agricultural development encompasses not only crop cultivation but also livestock production, aimed at bolstering the availability of nutritious food across the nation.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu convened a crucial meeting with state governors to address the prevailing challenges facing the nation.

Since assuming office and implementing the removal of subsidies, the economic landscape has witnessed turbulence, marked by soaring costs of living and widespread economic hardship. In response to these challenges, President Tinubu’s administration has taken proactive measures, including directives to alleviate the burden on citizens.

A significant step in this direction is the approval of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency to release approximately 102,000 metric tonnes of assorted food items, including rice, maize, and millet, to alleviate food scarcity.

The high-level meeting aimed to foster collaborative solutions to mitigate the escalating costs of food items, address security concerns, and tackle broader economic challenges, reflecting the government’s commitment to proactively addressing the nation’s pressing needs.
