Nigerian Army Reacts After Attempted Hack Of Official X Account

The Nigerian Army has confirmed an attempted unauthorised access to its official X account, describing the incident as a cybersecurity breach.

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred at about 5pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026, prompting the Army to immediately activate technical and protective measures to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, disclosed that the military had commenced efforts to protect the account and preserve the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.

The Army assured members of the public, media organisations and other stakeholders that appropriate measures were being taken to fully secure the affected account and restore exclusive administrative control.

It urged the public to remain vigilant and disregard any suspicious, misleading, unauthorised or unverified content that may be published through the account while efforts to resolve the incident continue.

The military stressed that any such content should not be regarded as representing the official position of the Nigerian Army until full control of the account is restored.
