NSCDC Nabs American Deportee Over Visa Scam
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has made a significant arrest in Ondo State, apprehending a middle-aged deportee involved in an elaborate visa scam.
The suspect, paraded before journalists by the State NSCDC Commandant, Oluyemi Ibiloye, was captured in Akure after fleeing from Okitipupa, where he had allegedly defrauded individuals by promising to facilitate their visas to the U.S.A.
Presenting the case, Ibiloye revealed that the suspect, masquerading as a captain in the United States Army, deceitfully obtained N300,000 from a female victim under the pretense of securing her a job opportunity in America.
“The suspect led his victim to believe he was a United States Army officer on leave in Nigeria, promising her a coveted slot to work in America in exchange for a deposit of N300,000 into his bank account,” explained Ibiloye.
However, after the transaction, the suspect evaded all communication attempts from the victim until he was tracked down and apprehended in Akure.
In a confessional statement, the suspect admitted to the crime, disclosing that he resorted to such fraudulent activities due to challenging circumstances.
“I am not a captain in the U.S. Army. I obtained a Master’s degree in the U.S.A. before I was deported. I collected the said amount as I was planning to relocate to another country,” the suspect confessed.
The arrest serves as a testament to NSCDC’s commitment to combating fraudulent activities and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
