NSCDC Officer Killed, Five Policemen And Soldier Injured In Abia Road Accident

A tragic auto accident along the Umuahia-Bende-Ohafia federal highway in Abia State has claimed the life of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) officer, while five policemen and a soldier sustained injuries.

Rescue Efforts

Motorists and residents of the Ihie Ibeku community were quick to respond, helping to rescue the injured officers and transporting them to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Umuahia before security agencies arrived at the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that of the 10 security operatives on board, one NSCDC officer was confirmed dead, while eight others were injured and taken to the hospital. It was also revealed that one of the operatives had disembarked earlier along the highway before the accident occurred and was initially reported missing but was later found safe.

Official Reactions

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka, clarified that she does not speak on behalf of ‘Operation Crush,’ the joint security task force involved in the incident.

Governor Alex Otti expressed his condolences to the leadership of the joint security task force and the family of the deceased NSCDC officer. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor assured that the injured personnel would receive comprehensive medical care to ensure their prompt recovery.

Governor Otti commended the efforts of the Joint Security Task Force in maintaining security across the state and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the task force to sustain peace and safety in the region.
