Ondo Tragedy: Bandits Gun Down Two, Kidnap Several Corps Members
In a tragic incident on Friday night, bandits attacked a passenger vehicle on the Ifon/Owo road in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, killing two individuals and abducting several National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
According to sources who spoke with Daily Trust, the bandits, numbering over 20, ambushed a Sienna space bus carrying passengers en route to Owo from Anambra State. The attackers struck near Ifon town, creating panic among the passengers.
One of the victims, a corps member named Adewole Paul Oluwaseun, was returning from the NYSC camp in Enugu when he was abducted.
The kidnappers have reportedly contacted the family, demanding a ransom of N30 million.
During the ambush, the vehicle’s driver and a young lady seated in the front were shot while attempting to escape.
Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries. The bodies have been deposited at a morgue in a private hospital in Ifon.
Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, confirmed the incident.
She stated that security agencies have launched an operation to rescue the abducted victims. While confirming the deaths of the driver and the female passenger, she could not immediately provide the exact number of kidnapped individuals.
“We are actively pursuing the bandits and are confident that we will rescue the kidnapped victims unhurt,” Odunlami-Omisanya told reporters.
