Oshiomhole Backs Tinubu, Says He Has Political Will In Abundance

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has defended President Bola Tinubu against criticisms that his administration has failed to give adequate attention to the country’s security challenges, insisting that the President possesses the political determination needed to tackle insecurity.

Speaking in Abuja during the public presentation of a book written by the Federal Capital Territory Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, Oshiomhole argued that Tinubu has consistently demonstrated his commitment to improving national security through decisive actions and increased funding.

According to reports from the event, the former Edo State governor stated that the Commander-in-Chief has repeatedly directed security agencies to ensure the safety of Nigerians while also approving additional financial resources, including supplementary budget allocations endorsed by the National Assembly, to strengthen security operations.

Oshiomhole further pointed to the President’s declaration of a state of emergency in affected areas and the replacement of former security chiefs as clear evidence of his willingness to make difficult decisions in the interest of national security.

He maintained that dismissing top security officials was itself a demonstration of strong leadership, stressing that there should be no debate about the President’s political resolve. He added that security should remain a collective national responsibility rather than an issue divided along political party lines, urging both the ruling and opposition parties to work together for the country’s stability.

The senator also stated that he was unaware of any instance where security personnel had been sanctioned for apprehending dangerous criminals, reiterating his belief that the President has political will “in abundance.”

Despite defending the administration, Oshiomhole expressed concerns about the implementation of directives issued by leadership, suggesting that challenges may exist between command decisions and execution on the ground.

He questioned whether officers responsible for carrying out operational orders possess the necessary commitment, equipment, morale, and welfare support to effectively implement instructions from their superiors. According to him, examining how commands are translated into action at lower operational levels could provide valuable insights into addressing the nation’s security challenges.
