According to Ireporter Online, Victor Osimhen marked his return from injury, but it was not enough to prevent Galatasaray from suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Genclerbirligi in the quarter-finals of the Turkish Cup.

The Nigerian forward had been out of action for several weeks due to an arm injury and was eased back into action with a late appearance. He was introduced in the 78th minute in place of Renato Nhaga after Galatasaray had already fallen behind and were struggling to find an equaliser.

Osimhen had only recently returned to full training after missing four matches, with the club opting to manage his recovery through limited playing time as he builds up full match fitness.

Genclerbirligi broke the deadlock early in the second half when Firatcan Uzum capitalised on a loose ball inside the penalty area to give the visitors the lead in the 51st minute.

Galatasaray responded with increased pressure, as Ahmed Kutucu came close with a powerful effort that was well saved, while Wilfried Singo saw a potential equaliser ruled out for offside.

The visitors sealed their victory seven minutes from time when Adama Traore reacted quickest to a rebound, slotting home from close range to double Genclerbirligi’s advantage and silence the home supporters.

Despite multiple attacking substitutions from coach Okan Buruk, including Osimhen’s introduction, Galatasaray were unable to mount a comeback as Genclerbirligi held firm to secure a semi-final spot.

The result brings an end to Galatasaray’s 10-match unbeaten run in the competition and marks an abrupt conclusion to their Turkish Cup title defence.
