Damagum expressed his indifference towards the recent power struggle within the party, stating that a leadership change would not diminish his standing within the party structure.

“This is not a matter of life and death. I am still an elected member of this NEC. Even if I revert to deputy national chairman, I’m still a member of NWC. The issue of surviving or not does not emerge,” he affirmed.

Bauchi Governor’s Perspective

The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, echoed Damagum’s sentiments, emphasizing the peaceful outcome of the NEC meeting.

Addressing the issue of potential internal conflicts, Mohammed emphasized the party’s unity and adherence to constitutional processes.

“We have gone beyond all these idiosyncrasies. This party is a united party that is guided by experience and constitutionality,” he asserted.

Regarding the selection of a new chairman from the North Central region, Mohammed outlined a timeline for forthcoming activities, indicating a deliberate and orderly approach to leadership transitions within the party.

“In the next two months, we will see a lot of activities. Leadership is a responsibility. We will look at the issue of leadership and our constitution, and we will do it with no rancour,” he concluded.
