Dr. Tunji-Ojo announced that the installation of the e-gates is almost complete, with the project at 99 percent readiness. He indicated that the e-gates would commence full operations by the following week.
Accompanied by top officials including the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, and the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, Dr. Tunji-Ojo explained that the purpose of the e-gates is to minimize human interactions, streamline processes, and ensure smoother passenger movements in and out of the country.
The deployment plan includes installing 29 e-gates in Lagos, four each in Enugu and Kano, and five in Port-Harcourt. Dr. Tunji-Ojo assured that thorough testing has been conducted on the airport infrastructure and command and control centers, with fake and expired passports being detected and rejected while genuine ones were cleared.
He emphasized the significance of the e-gate infrastructure in enhancing security at the airports, preventing unwanted individuals or persons of interest from entering Nigeria.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended the collaboration among various stakeholders including the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria Customs Service, and others. He also lauded the efforts of the Minister of Aviation, Hon. Festus Keyamo (SAN), and other critical stakeholders for making the transformation possible in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
