The stage is set, and the resolve among Super Eagles players has solidified as they vow to intensify their endeavors to claim the AFCON trophy today.
Instilling a sense of determination, positivity, and the right mindset in his squad, coach Jose Peseiro conveyed to the players that his yearning for the trophy surpasses theirs.
He underscored the profound support Nigerians have showered upon the team since their arrival in Abidjan, emphasizing that the Super Eagles stand as the most prominent team he has managed, eclipsing his prior stints with two lesser-ranked national teams – Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. Additionally, his coaching experience extended to serving as an assistant to other coaches and overseeing clubs in Portugal’s fourth-tier league.
Reflecting on his playing days as a second-tier striker in Portugal, Peseiro candidly admitted, during an interview on UK’s Sky Sport, “I did not play at a high level.” Nonetheless, his coaching trajectory experienced a significant shift following his promotion to the top flight with Nacional, leading to pivotal opportunities. Notably, he ascended to prominence when legendary Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz appointed him as his assistant at Real Madrid in 2003, marking a defining moment in Peseiro’s career.
