who revealed that Tinubu ordered a cut in both the expenses and the size of entourages during his domestic and international trips.

Tinubu extended this directive to the Vice President, the First Lady, ministers, and other public office holders to curb wasteful spending and reduce recurrent expenditure.

In response to this development, Peter Obi took to his official social media handle on Wednesday, characterizing the reduction as a positive step toward governance cost reduction and the prevention of wasteful expenditure.

However, Obi contended that the cut was insufficient and would only result in minimal savings. He urged the Presidency to disclose the specific amount of savings generated by this reduction.

Obi went further, calling on President Tinubu to implement a 60% reduction in federal official overseas trips and also a 60% decrease in the size of delegations accompanying such trips. He emphasized that the economic reality demands a comprehensive 60% reduction in the total cost of governance at the Federal level, necessitating a revision of the recently passed federal budget to eliminate wasteful and unnecessary expenditures.

Obi argued that substantial savings from these cuts should be redirected towards funding productive sectors, particularly in education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation efforts.

Additionally, Obi underscored the importance of transparent communication regarding the financial impact of the measures taken. He stressed the need for detailed information on the savings generated and their intended allocation.

Considering the government’s penchant for extensive borrowing, Obi asserted that the key to economic recovery lies in significant reductions in government expenditure by eliminating wasteful expenses and unnecessary luxury items.
