When asked why the police have not pursued crossdressers, Adejobi explained the complexities of such cases. He emphasized the importance of credible evidence in legal proceedings, highlighting the difficulty in proving certain crimes like rape without sufficient evidence.
Adejobi stressed, “There are some cases that are always very difficult… If you want to prove a case of rape, rape has points to prove. If any one of those points is missing, you may lose your case in court.”
Regarding whether crossdressing itself is a crime in Nigeria, Adejobi stated, “I don’t think so because I have not read anywhere it is stated it is an offence per se.” However, he noted that allegations against some crossdressers may involve claims of engaging in “unnatural offences,” which necessitates credible evidence for prosecution.
He emphasized the need for substantial evidence to prove such allegations, stating, “You need to have enough proof, credible evidence to prove that they are actually into that.”
Adejobi’s statements underscore the legal complexities involved in addressing cases involving crossdressers and the necessity of sufficient evidence to support legal action.
