Presidential Visit: Tinubu Heads To Ogun To Pay Final Respects To Royal Icon

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to depart Abuja on Sunday, July 20, for Ogun State to participate in the eighth-day prayer ceremony in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on July 13 at the age of 91. The revered monarch was laid to rest the following day in Ijebu-Ode.

According to iReporter Online, the president’s trip to Ogun underscores the deep respect he holds for the late Oba Adetona, whose decades-long reign left an indelible mark on traditional leadership in Nigeria. Tinubu is expected to join Governor Dapo Abiodun and a host of dignitaries at the prayer gathering, which will take place at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the visit, stating that Tinubu’s attendance is a significant gesture of national recognition for Oba Adetona’s contribution to peace, culture, and development in Ijebuland and beyond.

This visit comes just days after President Tinubu traveled to Kano State on Friday, July 18, where he paid a condolence visit to the family of late industrialist and philanthropist, Aminu Dantata. While in Kano, the president was received by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, who is a nephew of the deceased, as well as the Kano State governor and other prominent stakeholders.
