Qing Madi Says Music Money Is Like ‘Drug Money’ – Fans React

According to Ireporter Online, rising Afrobeats artist Qing Madi has compared music earnings to “drug money,” highlighting the industry’s enormous financial potential. On a recent episode of the Tea With Tay podcast, the 19-year-old singer explained that a single performance can earn more than what an average Nigerian might make in a year, underscoring music’s lucrative nature.

Music money is not normal; it is like drug money. I don’t think people know how… And I’m not the person who would buy stuff and put it on the media because I do think that would change the narrative of what I am. But I am rich,” she said.

Qing Madi, whose real name is Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, noted that while music has provided her with financial freedom, she avoids showcasing her wealth online to prevent defining herself by money. “The average Nigerian works 9-5 and earns maybe N500,000 at the end of the month, while as an artist, you do one show and get N20 million. Music money is huge,” she added.

She also commented on the therapeutic power of music in Nigeria, suggesting that many fans turn to music as a form of emotional release due to limited access to formal therapy.
