Qing Madi: Why I Choose Privacy Over The Spotlight

According to Ireporter Online, Afrobeats sensation Chimamanda Chukwuma, popularly known as Qing Madi, has revealed that she deliberately keeps her wealth private, choosing not to showcase it on social media. In a recent interview on the Tea with Tay podcast, she explained that this decision reflects her desire not to be defined solely by her financial status.

Qing Madi stated that financial independence provides her with greater creative control over her music, though she acknowledged that commercial pressures occasionally influence her work. She noted, “Sometimes I might fall victim to consumerism… but it doesn’t mean that I’m going to reduce the quality of what I make to fit what people desire.”

The singer also highlighted the stark contrast between artists’ earnings and typical salaried jobs, likening music income to “drug money.” She said, “When I look at the average Nigerian… they get paid maybe a 500,000 salary. And you, as an artist, go for a show and let’s just say you get like 20 million for that one show. And it’s like, whoa.”

Qing Madi further emphasized music’s role as an emotional outlet for Nigerians, compensating for the country’s limited mental health resources. She explained that music allows people to connect with shared experiences, offering comfort and escape in a society where taking breaks for mental health is uncommon.
