Brandishing placards emblazoned with slogans like ‘No Light, No Payment’ and ‘The Heat is too much’, the impassioned demonstrators voiced their grievances, citing the unbearable heat as the culprit behind their husbands’ reluctance to engage in nighttime affection.

Maria Ike, the outspoken leader of the protesting women, lamented the dire consequences of persistent power outages, which have not only stifled romantic connections but also disrupted their businesses and daily lives.

“We have decided to let the world know what we are passing through in the hands of PHED,” Ike declared. “The poor supply in our area is at zero level despite the fact that we pay monthly bills to PHED. We no longer have romance and conjugal relationship with our husbands because of so much heat due to power failure. Our businesses have collapsed because of power outage. This is really affecting our families.”

In response, PHED’s Public Relations Officer, Livingstone Koko, acknowledged the widespread issue of poor power supply across the country but assured that efforts were underway to address the situation in Rivers state.

While the protest highlighted the urgent need for improved electricity infrastructure, it also underscored the profound impact of inadequate power supply on the daily lives and relationships of those affected, prompting calls for swift action and lasting solutions.
