Nigerians Must Learn Self-Defence for Survival – CDS Musa

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has emphasized the importance of self-defence skills for all Nigerians, urging citizens to see such skills as essential to survival in today’s volatile security environment.

According to iReporter Online, General Musa made the call during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stressing that self-defence should be as fundamental as swimming or driving.

“It is important that every Nigerian is given security awareness at whatever level. Self-defence, unarmed combat, swimming, driving — these are critical for human survival,” he stated.

“The world we live in is dangerous, and we must be prepared.”

He noted that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) should integrate unarmed combat and security awareness into its curriculum, equipping graduates with practical skills for real-world survival.

According to iReporter Online, the Defence Chief also called on Nigerians to adopt a proactive attitude toward personal and community safety, saying security should not be left entirely to the military or security agencies.

He stressed the importance of vigilance, advising individuals to be alert and security-conscious at all times.

“Everyone must be involved. Security is a collective responsibility.

Communities must play a role, and individuals should be aware and ready to act in the face of danger,” he added.
