See Why APC Won’t Participate In Abia LG Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has declared its non-participation in the upcoming local government elections set for November 2, 2024. This decision was made during a meeting of the party’s state executives and local government chairmen in Umuahia.

The APC cited the absence of formal communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) as the key reason for its withdrawal. Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, the State Assistant Secretary and acting Publicity Secretary, clarified that the party cannot base its involvement on information circulated through social media.

He emphasized that ABSIEC must use official channels for communicating important updates, ensuring transparency and inclusiveness in the election process. According to Uruakpa, as the ruling party in Nigeria, APC expects due process and respect from ABSIEC, calling for a level playing field for all political parties involved.
