The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Solomon Adeola, widely known as Yayi, as the winner of the party’s governorship primary election in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Reports indicate that Adeola secured a commanding victory after polling 304,055 votes during the primary election conducted across the 20 local government areas of the state on Thursday.

Announcing the outcome after the collation of results, the Chairman of the Ogun State Governorship Electoral Committee, Wale Ohu, disclosed that 305,287 accredited voters participated in the exercise. He added that Adeola’s sole opponent, Abayomi Samako Hunye, failed to record any vote in the contest.

Ohu subsequently declared Adeola as the duly elected governorship candidate of the APC for the 2027 election in Ogun State, noting that the results would be forwarded to the party’s National Working Committee for final ratification.

The declaration formally positions Adeola as the ruling party’s flagbearer as preparations intensify for the next governorship election in the state.

Speaking after the announcement, Adeola expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as years of guidance, mentorship and unwavering support throughout his political career. The senator recalled that his political journey began in the Lagos State House of Assembly before advancing to the House of Representatives and eventually the Senate, where he is currently serving his third term.

He stated that the President had remained supportive throughout his 24 years in active politics.

Adeola also acknowledged the support of former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, praising their roles in ensuring his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.

Adeola pledged that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would focus on inclusive growth, infrastructural development, economic advancement and policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents across Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, praised the peaceful conduct of the APC primaries in the state, saying the party had demonstrated discipline, maturity and unity by resolving most contests through consensus.
